<h1>Liability Under Negotiable Instruments Act: Makers, Drawers, and Acceptors as Principal Debtors, Others as Sureties, Sec 37</h1> The Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, Section 37, stipulates that the maker of a promissory note or cheque, the drawer of a bill of exchange until it is accepted, and the acceptor are primarily liable as principal debtors. In the absence of a contrary agreement, other parties involved are considered sureties for these principal debtors.
