LLP Names Must Avoid Prohibited Terms and Require Approval for Certain Associations, Valid for Three Months Under 2009 Rules.
The Limited Liability Partnership Rules, 2009, specify that the name of an LLP must not be prohibited under the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950. Names that are offensive, misleading, or imply government affiliation are generally not reserved. Names that closely resemble existing LLPs or companies, include certain professional terms, or suggest foreign associations require specific approvals. Foreign LLPs may reserve their names for three years, renewable upon application. Applications for name reservation must be submitted online, with the Registrar granting or rejecting them, allowing resubmission within 15 days for corrections. Reserved names are valid for three months.
