Ombudsman Term Limits: 3 Years Plus Potential 2-Year Reappointment, Age Cap at 65, Three-Month Notice for Termination
A person appointed as an Ombudsman under the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Ombudsman) Regulations, 2003, serves a term of three years and may be reappointed for an additional two years, provided they do not exceed the age of sixty-five. The Board can terminate the Ombudsman's services with a three-month notice or equivalent compensation. Similarly, the Ombudsman can resign with a three-month notice. These provisions were amended in 2003, previously allowing a term of up to five years with a maximum age limit of seventy.
