New Amendment Empowers Chief Executive to Convene Board Meetings; Revises Quorum and Presiding Rules in Section 50.
The Multi-State Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Act, 2023 modifies Section 50 of the principal Act. It introduces provisions allowing the Chief Executive to convene board meetings if the Chairperson or President fails to do so, based on requisitions from the Vice-Chairperson, Vice-President, or any board member. Additionally, the Chief Executive can convene meetings upon request from at least fifty percent of board members. If the Chairperson or President cannot attend a meeting, the Vice-Chairperson, Vice-President, or another board member chosen by those present will preside. The quorum for board meetings is set at one-third of the elected directors.
