New Amendment to Section 17 Allows Co-op Societies to Merge with Multi-State Co-ops by Two-Thirds Member Vote
In the Multi-State Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Act, 2023, a new sub-section is added to section 17 of the principal Act. This provision allows any co-operative society to merge into an existing multi-State co-operative society through a resolution passed by a two-thirds majority of members present and voting at a general meeting. However, this resolution must comply with the provisions of the respective State Co-operative Societies Act under which the society is registered.
