of <h1>Importer-Exporter Code Required for Goods; Services/Technology Need Code Only for Foreign Trade Benefits, Per August 2010 Amendment.</h1> No individual or entity is permitted to engage in importing or exporting activities without obtaining an Importer-Exporter Code Number from the Director General or an authorized officer, as per the procedures established by the Director General. However, for the import or export of services or technology, this code is required only if the provider is availing benefits under the foreign trade policy or is involved with specified services or technologies. This provision was amended by notification dated August 19, 2010.
