of <h1>Amendment to Income-tax Act Section 257: Changes Application Clause for Pre-October 1998 Orders Under Section 254.</h1> Section 257 of the Income-tax Act has been amended by the Finance (No. 2) Act, 1998. The amendment replaces the phrase 'an application made under section 256' with 'an application made against an order made under section 254 before the 1st day of October, 1998, under section 256.' This change is effective from October 1, 1998.
