Section 8A - Emergency power of Central Government to increase import duties

Import duties may be raised by government notification as an emergency measure when immediate action is required.

Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, increase import duty on articles in the First Schedule as an emergency measure when satisfied that immediate action is necessary; a later emergency notification cannot replace an earlier one until that earlier notification is approved under the statutory oversight mechanism, and the procedural and review provisions applicable to duty-increasing notifications apply to such emergency notifications.
