of <h1>Import Duty on Garlic Hiked to 100% Under Section 8A of Customs Tariff Act Effective January 15, 2003</h1> The Central Government has issued a notification increasing the import duty on garlic, classified under sub-heading 0703.20 of the First Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975. The duty rate in column (4) is amended to '100%' and in column (5) to '90%'. This change is effective from January 15, 2003, as per Notification No. 11/2003-Customs. The decision is made under the powers of section 8A of the Customs Tariff Act due to circumstances necessitating immediate action.
