The Act, titled Co-operative Societies Act, 1912, facilitates formation of co-operative societies to promote thrift and self-help among agriculturists, artisans and persons of limited means by amending the law relating to co-operative societies, and specifies that it extends to the whole of India except the territories that immediately before a specified territorial reorganisation were comprised in Part B States.
