Society registration: liability classification governs whether cooperative societies register and whether member liability is limited or unlimited. A society formed to promote the economic interests of its members by cooperative principles, or to facilitate such societies, may be registered under the Act with or without limited liability. Unless the State Government orders otherwise, if a society has a registered-society as a member its liability is limited, whereas a society created to lend funds to its members with a majority of agriculturist members and no registered-society members shall have unlimited liability.
