of <h1>Indian Telegraph Act Amended: User ID Verification via Aadhaar or Alternatives Made Voluntary; No Denial Without Aadhaar</h1> Section 4 of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885, is amended to include provisions for identifying service users. Licensees must verify users through Aadhaar authentication, offline Aadhaar verification, passport, or other government-approved identification methods. The choice of identification method is voluntary, and services cannot be denied for lack of an Aadhaar number. Aadhaar authentication must not involve storing biometric data or Aadhaar numbers. The Central Government may impose additional safeguards for compliance. Definitions for 'Aadhaar number' and 'core biometric information' align with the Aadhaar Act, 2016.
