Prohibition on imports based on origin of inputs limits access when economic relations with source States are absent. Prohibitions under the SAFTA origin rules permit a Contracting State to forbid importation of products containing inputs originating from States with which it lacks economic and commercial relations, thereby conditioning permissive import treatment on the verifiable origin of inputs.
