of <h1>Securities depositories regulated under 1996 Act extending nationwide from September 20, 1995</h1> The Depositories Act, 1996 is legislation enacted by Parliament to regulate depositories in securities and related matters. The Act extends to the whole of India and is deemed to have come into force on September 20, 1995. It was formally enacted on August 10, 1996, during the forty-seventh year of the Republic of India, establishing the legal framework for depository regulation in the securities market.
