They must apply online to be included in a data bank managed by the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs. This inclusion can be for one year, five years, or a lifetime, with renewals required within 30 days of expiry. Independent directors must pass an online proficiency test within two years unless exempt due to prior experience. If removed from the data bank, individuals may apply for restoration, subject to passing the test within one year.
