India Lifts Ban on Onion Exports; All Forms Now Permitted with Conditions Under Foreign Trade Policy 2009-2014
The Government of India has lifted the ban on onion exports, effective immediately, under the Foreign Trade Policy 2009-2014. The export of onions, including fresh, chilled, frozen, provisionally preserved, or dried, is now permitted through State Trading Enterprises (STEs) with applicable Minimum Export Price (MEP) based on the variety. Additionally, onions in cut, sliced, or powder form are freely exportable without any MEP. This supersedes previous notifications that prohibited the export of certain onion varieties, including Bangalore Rose and Krishnapuram, in specific forms.
