India Updates Import Rules for Marble and Artificial Stones; License Holders Get Increased Quotas Amid Economic Slowdown
The Government of India has issued amendments to the ITC (HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items, 2004-09, concerning the import of marble and artificial stones. Import Licensing Notes for Chapters 25 and 68 have been updated to specify conditions for importing marble and agglomerated/artificial stones, referencing various Policy Circulars. Due to economic slowdown, license holders for artificial stones can now import rough marble blocks/slabs under specific conditions. Additionally, license holders for marble imports can apply for a 25% increase in their 2008-09 quotas to mitigate potential business disruptions due to policy delays. These changes are effective immediately.
