Import is restricted and requires licensing under specific EXIM codes. Eligibility is limited to applicants with manufacturing units and previous imports of similar items. A floor price is set at $300 per metric tonne for Chinese-origin blocks and $400 for others, with slabs priced at $22 and $28 per square meter, respectively. The total import ceiling is 60,000 metric tonnes, with individual entitlements based on 2006-07 turnover, certified by a chartered accountant. Applications must be submitted by October 16, 2008.
