It is applicable throughout India and came into effect on October 1, 1932, with the exception of Section 69, which commenced on October 1, 1933. Initially, the Act did not apply to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, but this exception was removed following the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019.
