<h1>Finance Act 1984 Updates Section 129 of Customs Act: New Criteria for Judicial and Technical Members.</h1> Section 129 of the Customs Act has been amended by the Finance Act, 1984. The revised provisions specify that a judicial member must have held a judicial office in India for at least ten years, or have been a member of the Central Legal Service in a Grade I or equivalent post for at least three years, or have been an advocate for at least ten years. A technical member must have served as a member of the Indian Customs and Central Excise Service, Group A, holding the position of Collector of Customs or Central Excise for at least three years. Additionally, the Central Government can appoint a Senior Vice-President from among the Vice-Presidents of the Appellate Tribunal.
