Central government lists airports as customs airports under Section 7(a) with specified cargo, baggage, and notice requirements
The central government designates specific airports across states and union territories as customs airports under section 7(a) of the Customs Act, 1962, specifying for each airport the permitted customs activities (eg, unloading of imported goods, loading of export goods, unloading/loading of baggage, and restricted handling for defence- or Nepal-related cargo). Baggage on tourist charter flights may be unloaded at a listed subset of airports only if the tour operator gives the Principal Commissioner/Commissioner of Customs advance notice of arrival (seven days or a shorter period as permitted). The notification has been amended multiple times to add, modify or clarify airport-specific purposes.
