India Revises Export Rules for Cotton Yarn; Registration Mandatory from Dec 1, 2010, Under Foreign Trade Policy
The Government of India has amended the export policy for cotton yarn under the Foreign Trade Policy 2009-14. Effective December 1, 2010, the export of cotton yarn, classified under Tariff Codes 5205, 5206, and 5207, requires registration with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade prior to shipment. The transitional arrangements under the policy do not apply to cotton yarn exports. Exporters with a registration certificate from the Textile Commissioner, Mumbai, issued on or before December 1, 2010, may export within the specified quantity and validity. The export is now restricted and requires a license.
