<h1>India Revises Iron & Steel Import Policy: Compulsory Registration Now Required Under SIMS for Chapters 72, 73, 86.</h1> The Government of India has amended the import policy for iron and steel products under Chapters 72, 73, and 86 of the ITC (HS), 2017, Schedule - I, changing the status from 'free' to 'free subject to compulsory registration' under the Steel Import Monitoring System (SIMS). Importers must provide advance information online and obtain a registration number by paying a fee, valid for 75 days. This system will be effective for bills of entry from November 21, 2019. Due to COVID-19, registrations until March 31, 2020, will be valid for 135 days. This policy aims to monitor specific imports effectively.
