<h1>Import policy of Iron and Steel revised to compulsory SIMS registration for specified HS items; registration, fee, validity, BOE reporting</h1> Import policy for specified items in Chapters 72, 73 and 86 of the ITC (HS) has been revised from free to free subject to compulsory registration under the Steel Import Monitoring System (SIMS). SIMS requires importers to submit advance online information, obtain an automatic Registration Number, and pay a registration fee calculated on CIF value at Rs.1 per thousand (minimum Rs.500; maximum Rs.1,00,000). Registration may be applied for between 60 and 15 days before expected arrival and remains valid for 75 days (registration numbers generated until 31.03.2020 extended to 135 days). The Bill of Entry must record the Registration Number and its expiry; SIMS effective from 21.11.2019.
