<h1>Registration Required for Iron & Steel Imports to SEZ/FTWZ; Additional Steps if HS Code Changes for DTA Supply.</h1> The Directorate General of Foreign Trade clarifies that under the Steel Import Monitoring System (SIMS), registration is required for importing iron and steel items into Special Economic Zones (SEZ) or Free Trade Warehousing Zones (FTWZ). Once registered upon entry into SEZ/FTWZ, further registration is not needed for customs clearance when supplying to Domestic Tariff Area (DTA) unless the manufacturing process in SEZ changes the HS Code at the 8-digit level. In such cases, DTA importers must register under SIMS. This clarification follows consultation with the Ministry of Steel and is approved by the competent authority.
