<h1>Regulation 12A allows venture capital funds to engage merchant bankers for market activities on SME exchanges, exempting certain requirements.</h1> Regulation 12A of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Venture Capital Funds) Regulations, 1996, permits venture capital funds to engage with merchant bankers to subscribe to any unsubscribed portion of an issue or to participate in market making activities on SME exchanges. This regulation exempts such transactions from the requirements of regulation 12, specifically for the acquisition or sale of securities related to these activities. This provision was introduced by an amendment effective from April 13, 2010.
