1987 Rules Govern CESTAT Recruitment; Selection Committee Includes Supreme Court Judge, Finance & Law Secretaries.
The method of recruitment for members of the Central Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT) is governed by the 1987 Rules. A Selection Committee, chaired by a Supreme Court judge and including secretaries from the Ministries of Finance and Law, the President, and up to two other government-nominated individuals, oversees the recruitment process. The committee recommends candidates from a list prepared by the Ministry of Finance, which solicits applications through advertisements or recommendations. A quorum of three members, including the Chairman, is required for meetings, and the committee may establish its own selection procedures.
