Rule 17: Imported or Exported Goods Confiscation Conditions Updated; Personal Use Items Exempt; Redemption Possible with Charges
Rule 17 of the Foreign Trade (Regulation) Rules 1993 outlines the conditions under which imported or exported goods, materials, or those connected with services or technology, may be confiscated. If any condition related to their import, export, sale, or distribution is contravened, such items are subject to confiscation by the Adjudicating Authority. However, goods imported for personal use are exempt from confiscation. The rule allows for the redemption of confiscated items upon payment of charges equivalent to their market value. Recent amendments have updated the terminology used in the rule.
