<h1>Central Government to Appoint Indirect Tax Ombudsmen; Must Retire Upon Appointment, Tenure Up to 3 Years, No Reappointment.</h1> The Central Government, based on recommendations from a designated committee, may appoint one or more Indirect Tax Ombudsmen. Eligible candidates must have held a high-ranking government post, preferably within the Indian Revenue Service, and must retire from government service upon appointment. The Ombudsman operates independently from Customs, Central Excise, and Service Tax departments. The tenure is two years, extendable by one year based on performance, or until reaching 63 years of age, with no possibility of reappointment. Performance is evaluated by the recommending committee.
