Customs Act territorial scope extended to fishing and fishing-related activities by Indian-flagged vessels beyond territorial waters, altering applicability.
Section 1(2) of the Customs Act is amended to insert 'fishing and fishing related activities by Indian-flagged fishing vessels beyond territorial waters of India' after the words 'whole of India,' thereby extending the statutory territorial ambit of customs law to cover fishing operations of Indian-flagged vessels operating outside territorial waters. The legal effect is to treat specified fishing and related activities by Indian-flagged vessels beyond the territorial sea as falling within the Act's applicability, enabling customs provisions and enforcement to apply to those activities.
