The oath binds appointees to faithfully and conscientiously discharge duties, to act without fear or favour, affection or ill-will, and to uphold the Constitution and laws of the land. Its operative effect is to impose a formal, declarative requirement of impartiality, fidelity to duty, and legal compliance as a condition of service.
