Storage charges may be imposed when owners redeem confiscated goods by opting to pay a fine in lieu of confiscation. Where goods adjudged to be confiscated are redeemed by the owner exercising the option to pay fine in lieu of confiscation, the adjudicating officer may determine and require payment of storage charges in respect of those goods under the Central Excise Rules, 2002.
