Purchase of immovable property by foreign missions requires government clearance and payment via overseas banking remittance. Purchase and sale of immovable property in India by foreign embassies, diplomats, and consulate generals are permitted only with prior clearance from the Government of India, Ministry of External Affairs and where the consideration is paid out of funds remitted from abroad through the banking channel; acquisition of agricultural land, plantation property, and farmhouses is excluded.
