Acquisition of immovable property by non resident Indian citizens allowed for non agricultural properties with restricted banking payment channels. Permitted acquisition by a non resident Indian citizen is limited to immovable property in India excluding agricultural land, plantations, and farm houses; purchase consideration must be paid only through inward remittance into India or from balances in prescribed non resident accounts, with cash, travellers cheques, foreign currency notes or other unpermitted modes prohibited. A non resident Indian may transfer immovable property to residents in India and non agricultural immovable property to other non resident Indian citizens or persons of Indian origin resident abroad.
