Onion Export Restrictions Lifted: New Amendment Allows Exports Without Limits, Subject to Quality and Price Conditions by NAFED.
The Central Government has amended Notification No. 51(RE-2007)/2004-09 concerning onion exports. Effective immediately, the amendment allows onion exports without quantitative restrictions, subject to quality conditions set by NAFED. Designated State Trading Enterprises (STEs) can issue No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to associate shippers, charging a uniform service fee of 1% of the invoice value. No additional fees are permitted. Exports must meet a Minimum Export Price (MEP) set by NAFED. Exporters are carefully selected to prevent permit trading, and reports on permits and shipments must be submitted to NAFED and the Department of Consumer Affairs.
