India restricts imports of precious metal alloys containing over 1% gold under Chapter 71 ITC amendments
The Indian government amended import policies for precious metals under Chapter 71 of ITC (HS) 2022. Six specific codes covering palladium, rhodium, iridium, osmium, and ruthenium maintain 'Free' import status. However, new restrictions apply to alloys of these metals containing more than 1% gold by weight, which now require restricted import classification. The amendments affect both unwrought/powder forms and other forms of these precious metals, taking immediate effect from June 17, 2025.
