of <h1>Laptop, tablet, PC and server imports under HSN 8471 reclassified as restricted; licences required with limited exemptions from 1 Nov 2023</h1> Imports of laptops, tablets, all-in-one personal computers, ultra small form factor computers and servers falling under HSN 8471 (Chapter 84) are reclassified from 'Free' to 'Restricted' and are permitted only against a valid licence for restricted imports, with specified CTH lines under 8471 amended accordingly. The restriction does not apply to imports under the Baggage Rules. Import licensing is exempted for (i) one laptop/tablet/all-in-one PC/ultra small form factor computer (including via post/courier) per consignment, subject to applicable duty, (ii) up to 20 such items per consignment for R&D/testing/benchmarking/evaluation/product development or repair-and-re-export, subject to non-sale and destruction or re-export after use, (iii) re-import of such items repaired abroad, and (iv) items forming an essential part of a capital good; the changes take effect from 01-11-2023.
