India Bans Export of Wheat Flour & Related Products, Citing Global Price Surge and Food Security Concerns.
The Government of India has amended the export policy for items under HS Code 1101, including Wheat or Meslin Flour (Atta), Maida, Samolina (Rava/Sirgi), Wholemeal atta, and resultant atta, changing their status from 'Free' to 'Prohibited.' This decision is in response to a surge in global prices, threatening food security in India and other vulnerable countries. Exports will only be allowed with government permission to meet specific food security needs of other nations. The transitional arrangements under the Foreign Trade Policy, 2015-2020, will not apply to this amendment.
