India Amends Foreign Trade Policy: Biofuel Imports Now Restricted, License Required from DGFT for All Imports.
The Government of India has amended the import policy for biofuels under the Foreign Trade Policy 2015-2020. The policy now categorizes the import of biofuels, including ethyl alcohol, petroleum oils, and biodiesel, as 'restricted' for all purposes. Previously, imports were allowed for non-fuel purposes under an Actual User condition. The new policy requires an import license from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) for all biofuel imports. This change removes the provision for free import by actual users. The amendment has been approved by the Minister of Commerce & Industry.
