Summary: Service tax headline rates and the removal of education cesses on 1 June 2015 increased the base levy and eliminated separately charged cesses, changing aggregate tax incidence. Compound rates for discrete services (air ticket booking, life insurance, currency exchange, lottery distribution, etc.) are updated with pre- and post-1 June 2015 percentages tied to defined taxable bases. Effective post-abatement rates for sectoral services (including GTA, works contracts, catering, transport, tour operators, room rent and motor cab renting) are provided to reflect the revised base rate inclusive of applicable abatements.

Summary: Service tax, though an indirect tax that can be contractually shifted between private parties, remains a statutory obligation of the assessee; contractual allocation affects only inter-party rights, not the revenue's right to require the assessee to register, file returns and pay tax, and the Department may hold the assessee liable regardless of agreements with contractors.

Summary: Safe, secure and efficient payment systems are foundational to economic stability and must scale to process large retail volumes generated by inclusion initiatives. India's recent innovations-from interbank switches, RTGS/NEFT and cheque truncation to RuPay, Aadhaar-enabled payments and NUUP-have enhanced interoperability and access but impose capacity, cybersecurity and coordination challenges. Technology and mobile channels offer multi-channel delivery opportunities, yet heterogeneity of platforms and operational frictions slow adoption. Regulators must balance enabling innovation with oversight on non-bank participation, virtual currencies, cloud and cross-border mobile transactions to maintain system safety and inclusivity.
Summary: Regulatory reforms under the Companies (Amendment) Bill, 2015 and related rule changes streamline corporate formalities by removing minimum paid up capital, making common seal optional, eliminating pre business commencement filings, clarifying dividend transfer to the IEPF, introducing a penal provision for deposit defaults, thresholded fraud reporting, and rationalizing criminal jurisdiction and trial benches. Administrative measures include the integrated e Form INC 29 to consolidate DIN allotment, incorporation and first director appointments, and notification of thirty nine Indian Accounting Standards (Ind AS) aligned with international reporting norms.
Summary: The Reserve Bank of India published an updated Reference Rate for the US Dollar to serve as the primary benchmark for rupee conversion; using that dollar reference rate together with middle cross currency quotations the RBI set rupee exchange rates for Euro, Pound Sterling and Japanese Yen and specified that the SDR Rupee rate will be based on the same reference framework.
