Summary: Tax authorities may deem unrecorded money, bullion or jewellery to be income if the owner fails to satisfactorily explain source; officers must apply a reasoned, non-arbitrary method when determining what portion is unexplained jewellery. Family customs, duration of marriage, joint locker ownership, and affidavits from family members can rebut presumptions of ownership by the locker operator, and absence of purchase invoices does not automatically compel an addition where contextual evidence plausibly explains acquisition.

Summary: Whether multisegment logistics movements should attract separate taxes for each leg or a single tax depends on classification as Multimodal Transport Services. An explicit GST category for multimodal logistics was introduced in 2018 to remove uncertainty about identifying a dominant transport mode and to simplify taxation for services that combine road, rail and air legs. Startups face compliance risks from potential reclassification as other service types, and adopting the multimodal classification reduces GST exposure and funding friction.

Summary: PFAS are persistent, bioaccumulative chemicals used in many products that pose environmental and health risks; international regimes are moving to restrict long chain PFAS, regulate drinking water, and remediate contaminated sites. India currently lacks specific PFAS legislation but can adapt existing pollution and water laws; recommended domestic measures include national standards for PFAS in media and products, mandatory disclosure, monitoring and reporting, stronger enforcement, a dedicated regulatory body, and adoption of the Polluter Pays Principle to drive cleanup and prevention.

Summary: Amendments to section 9A require assessment of Indian resident participation in an eligible investment fund as on the first day of April and the first day of October of the previous year, and permit a deemed satisfaction of the participation cap if the excess is remedied within four months of the applicable cutoff date. The Central Government may no longer relax that investor threshold condition for funds managed from an International Financial Services Centre, while the commencement deadline for such IFSC managers eligible for other relaxations is extended to 31st March, 2030.

Summary: Annual return filing is a mandatory corporate compliance obligation for private limited companies under the Companies Act, 2013, requiring yearly submission of corporate and financial information to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Core filings include Form MGT-7, Form AOC-4, the directors' report, audited financial statements and board resolutions. Timely and accurate submission preserves company active status, supports financial transparency, facilitates tax assessments and investor and lender interactions, and helps avoid penalties and director disqualification under Sections 92 and 164.

Summary: Orders issued without a Document Identification Number (DIN) fail the CBIC Circular requirement and have been treated as non-est and invalid; such omission undermines the formal validity of assessment communications and requires reissuance with a valid DIN, ensuring due notice and appropriate exclusion of the writ-petition period for limitation purposes.
      By: YAGAY andSUN
Summary: Corporate adoption of green supply chains requires integrating environmental criteria across procurement, logistics, manufacturing and product design, including Extended Producer Responsibility for end-of-life management. Operational measures include certified sustainable sourcing, electrified and optimised transport, energy-efficient manufacturing, closed-loop systems and renewable energy use. Firms must align these practices with national policy commitments, pollution-control frameworks and recognised environmental management standards while addressing capital, infrastructure and capacity constraints through industry collaboration, technology investment and workforce training.

Summary: Controlled delivery permits Customs to let suspected illicit consignments transit under surveillance to their destination to trace trafficking chains, subject to approval, continuous monitoring and recordkeeping; on establishment of illicit links Customs may seize and dispose of goods under the Customs Act, while ensuring importer/consignee cooperation protections, defined timeframes, international cooperation, officer training, and penalties for obstruction or non reporting.
      By: YAGAY andSUN
Summary: International trade requires Compliance with International Trade Agreements and transparency in trade laws and customs procedures to ensure predictable, rules-based commerce. Practical facilitation measures include harmonized customs standards, pre-arrival processing, risk-based inspections, and Authorized Economic Operator programmes to expedite low-risk shipments. Robust intellectual property protection, sustainability and ethical trade measures, trade finance instruments, accessible dispute-resolution mechanisms, and digitalization of trade documents further support efficient, fair cross-border trade.
      By: YAGAY andSUN

Summary: Interim restraint bars agency action on an order directing registration of an FIR against a former securities regulator chairperson and five officials, preserving the status quo pending resolution and affecting investigatory steps such as evidence gathering and witness questioning. Parallel procedural matters include an appeal against an interim maintenance order and the deferral of a decision on a convicted minister's position to constitutionally designated decision-makers, alongside criminal-enforcement activity in harassment and violent-crime incidents.
Summary: Demand for steel will continue growing, so companies must prioritise efficiency, cost management and productivity while continuing investments. Government policy support, management resolve and labour cooperation are needed for technology adoption and capacity expansion. The tariff debate - described as tariffs being import duties - should not distract from productivity-focused management. Corporate investments in semiconductor manufacturing illustrate a broader industrial strategy to build self-sufficiency and align policy, technology and regional investment.
Summary: Tariff escalation is the central policy driver at China's annual legislative sessions, with new US tariff threats and reciprocal measures expected to depress foreign trade and complicate attainment of growth targets. Concurrently, legislative deliberations will consider potential increases in the defence budget amid intensified strategic competition, while domestic policy measures aim to counter economic slowdown, address widening wealth inequality, and restore private-sector confidence through engagement with corporate leaders.
Summary: A federal investigatory agency issued a pre adjudication show cause notice alleging violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act by a corporate parent, its managing director and two linked subsidiaries for failing to report creation of an overseas step down subsidiary to the central banking regulator, accepting FDI without complying with prescribed pricing guidelines, and delaying statutory FDI reporting; the company contends the investments predate its acquisition of the subsidiaries.
