Import controls on metal scrap require pre-shipment certification and designated port clearance to prevent hazardous or radioactive imports.

Imports of metallic waste and scrap must not contain hazardous, radioactive or explosive materials. Shredded scrap of specified categories may be allowed through all ports without pre-shipment certification subject to limited examination. Unshredded, compressed or loose scrap requires clearance only through EDI ports with Risk Management Module, a prescribed pre-shipment inspection certificate, contractual assurances, and compliance with DGFT guidelines; designated ports are specified and consignments without certificates are subject to 100% examination and penal action. Shipping lines must ensure certificates before loading.
