<h1>Constitution (51st Amendment) Act Modifies Tribal Representation in State Assemblies Under Article 332(1)</h1> The Constitution (51st Amendment) Act, 1984 modifies Article 332(1) by replacing 'except the Scheduled Tribes in the tribal areas of Assam, in Nagaland and in Meghalaya' with 'except the Scheduled Tribes in the autonomous districts of Assam.' This amendment preserves existing tribal representation in Nagaland and Meghalaya Legislative Assemblies until their dissolution. The amendment became effective on June 16, 1986, as notified through G.S.R. 871(E).
