of <h1>Constitutional Amendment Empowers States to Maintain Their Own Backward Classes Lists Under Article 342A</h1> The 105th Constitutional Amendment Act, 2021 modifies Article 338B by inserting a proviso to clause (9). This proviso establishes that clause (9) will not apply for the purposes of clause (3) of Article 342A. The amendment specifically limits the scope of the National Commission for Backward Classes' consultation requirements with respect to the inclusion or exclusion of socially and educationally backward classes in official lists. This amendment came into force on August 15, 2021.
