of <h1>Income-tax Act Section 16 Amended: Deduction Now 20% of Salary or Rs. 5,000, Whichever is Less; Proviso Clause Omitted.</h1> Section 16 of the Income-tax Act is amended by the Finance Act, 1981, effective from April 1, 1982. The amendment modifies clause (i) to substitute the existing text with a provision allowing a deduction of either twenty percent of the salary or five thousand rupees, whichever is less. Additionally, clause (i) of the proviso in section 16 is omitted.
