Finance Act 1976 updates excise duties: cigars at 50% ad valorem, revised terms and rates for manufacturing items.
The Fifth Schedule of the Finance Act, 1976, amends the First Schedule to the Additional Duties of Excise Act. It revises Item No. 4 under 'Manufactured tobacco' to specify that cigars and cheroots are subject to fifty percent ad valorem duty. For Item No. 19, the term 'impregnated or coated' is replaced with 'impregnated, coated or laminated,' and various ad valorem duty rates are adjusted for sub-items, ranging from one-half to two and a half percent. Similarly, Item No. 22 is updated to include 'laminated' alongside 'impregnated or coated.'
