Summoning power of customs officers expanded to compel attendance and production of evidence in statutory inquiries. The amendment confers on Gazetted officers of Customs, duly empowered by the Central Government, the power to summon any person whose attendance is necessary to give evidence or to produce documents or other things in any inquiry such officer is making under the Customs Act.
