Reservation for Economically Weaker Sections permitted in public appointments alongside existing quotas under Article 16 constitutional amendment. The amendment inserts clause (6) in Article 16 permitting the State to reserve appointments or posts in favour of economically weaker sections of citizens not included in clause (4), to operate in addition to existing reservations and subject to a maximum of ten per cent. of the posts in each category.
