Unaccompanied baggage rules permit dispatch and early landing subject to authorised customs discretion for travel disruptions. Provisions of the Baggage Rules, 1998 apply to unaccompanied baggage except where excluded. Unaccompanied baggage may be dispatched from abroad within a specified period after the passenger's arrival, subject to extensions granted by the authorised customs officer. Unaccompanied baggage may also land before the passenger where the authorised officer, for reasons recorded, is satisfied the passenger was prevented from arriving within the ordinary pre-arrival window by circumstances beyond their control such as illness, natural calamity, disturbed conditions, or transport disruption, and may allow a longer landing period on that basis.
