Initially recognized in 2003, the project's eligibility was extended multiple times, with the latest extension covering the financial years 2012-13 to 2014-15. The estimated project cost has been increased from Rs. 200 crore to Rs. 400 crore, following recommendations by the National Committee for the Promotion of Social and Economic Welfare, acknowledging the project's proper execution.
