India Eases Export Rules for Chital and Sambhar Antler Products Until September 2009; Requires Legal Procurement Certificate
The Government of India has issued a notification relaxing the conditions for exporting shavings of shed antlers of Chital and Sambhar, as well as manufactured articles from these materials, until September 30, 2009. Exporters must apply within 30 days of the notification for a Legal Procurement Certificate from the Chief Wildlife Warden, who will verify the stock. The State Government will then refer cases to the Ministry of Environment & Forest for permission, which will recommend exports to the Directorate General of Foreign Trade. Each consignment will undergo pre-shipment inspection, and the exemption applies only to previously held stock.
